Linda Richter
I am often asked “What do you paint?”. I hesitate to reply since my paintings do not fall in the general categories most people think of like landscapes. I call them “nature portraits”. “Nature” because I paint birds or animals but also plants, flowers, and trees. And portraits because I like to get up close. Even to the point of cutting off parts and zooming in for a look at the eye. I like to paint a section rather than the whole. I want them to think about why I cropped where I did and what I was trying to get them to consider.

My inspiration is to take the ordinary things we see around us, and bring attention to them in special ways to show that there is more there to see and feel. The otherwise plain and simple can trigger strong emotion and attraction when presented in unusual ways. All of my art starts with capturing an image digitally, typically via a camera. Sometimes it ends there, as with my low light night-time imagery, and sometimes I take it further using proprietary digital painting techniques. The end result is intended to pull viewers in and offer them a new perception.
